jan 1, 1945 - Maria Ossowski. A Jewish survivor of the holocaust and her story.
Description:
Maria Ossowski was a Polish citizen who lived in Zakopane, Poland when the first events of World War 2 began to emerge. Unfortunately during the war non-jewish Poles were conscripted into forced labour in Germany. The sudden surprise of this resulted in Maria's parents to send Maria away to live with her family in Warsaw, in order to prevent her from being called up. As she was sent to live with her Aunt they did their best to provide food and clothing to jewish children in need. She was suspected of being a part of the Polish resistance army and was then transported to Auschwitz in May.The soviet army in January 1945, was evacuated and Maria had escaped, spending several months in forest posing as a German refugee. After the war Maria met her husband Alex and together they lived in the Polish army under British command, eventually settling in Britain.
