apr 19, 1775 - The battle of Lexington and Concord
Description:
The Battle of Lexington and Concord were the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. These battles took place on April 19, 1775 in Massachusetts. About 700 British Army soldiers in Boston, were given secret orders to capture and destroy Colonial (Patriot) military supplies reportedly stored by the Massachusetts at Concord. However, Patriot leaders had received the news weeks before that their supplies might be at risk and had moved them to other locations. The first shots were fired just as the sun was rising at Lexington. When British troops arrived to confiscate colonial weapons and supplies, they ran into untrained and angry militia. The militiamen defeated the British soldiers and their surprising victory boosted their confidence for the war and battles ahead.
