Description:
With unrest growing in the colonies to the south, which would one day grow into the American Revolution, the British were worried that the (formerly French) Canadiens might also support the growing rebellion. To secure the allegiance of the approximately 90,000 Canadiens to the British crown, the Quebec act was made to satisfy these people. The Quebec act allowed the French language and the Roman Catholicism official in the British colony of Quebec.
On September 5, 1774, delegates from each of the 13 colonies except for Georgia met in Philadelphia as the first ever continental congress. This meeting took place to organize colonial resistance to the British Parliament's Coercive Acts, also known as the intolerable acts. The continental congress became the governing body of the United States during the American Revolution.
