aug 2, 1934 - Hitler becomes Fuhrer
Description:
The hyperinflation and war debts that the Weimar Republic were dealing after WW1 led to an economic crisis, and many political parties tried to overthrow the Government.
The Nazi Party, or National Socialist German Workers' Party, although unpopular at first, began to gain more votes due to the economic and political crisis in Germany. The failing Government caused political groups like the Nazi Party to become even more prominent.
Hitler won followers by promising to fix the economy and create a strong German Government.
On January 30th, 1933, Adolf Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany by the German President Paul von Hindenburg. Hitler and other Nazi leaders created a dictatorship. Police began enforcing Nazi policies, and people began to lose their privacy as officials could read peoples mail, listen in on telephone conversations, and search homes without a warrant. Nazi Storm Troopers, also called the SA, beat up and killed people on the streets who seemingly didn't agree with Nazi regime. Over the course of the war, millions of German civilians would become homeless, food would be scarce, and thousands of people were to be attacked.
In August 1934, President Hindenburg died. Hitler stated himself Fuhrer of Germany, and his reign of terror continued until 30th April 1945 when he committed suicide.
