dec 31, 1970 - clean air act; in 1970 President Richard Nixon signed the clean air act. this forces automakers to adopt pollution requirements. this sees the birth of catalytic converters which reduce the power of the engine and kill the muscle car era.; this makes an impact by reducing smog-forming emissions for the first 20 years it is reported to prevent more than 200,000 deaths and 700,000 cases of chronic bronchitis.; this needed to happen in order to make the air cleaner.
