jan 1, 1677 - Discovery of Bacteria, Sperm and Microorganisms
Description:
Aton van Leeuwenhoek used a microscope to examine a sample of pond water in 1677 and found the existence of microscopic organisms. Leeuwenhoek identified tiny, single-celled living things (protozoa) as "animalcules," or what is now referred to as microorganisms. Aton also identified crescent-shaped bacteria (genus selenomonas), and spermatozoa (sperm cells) from mammals, including humans, dogs, and insects.
