jan 1, 1953 - Solved the structure of DNA/discovered the double helix - Francis Crick and James Watson
Description:
The discovery of the double helix by James Watson and Francis Crick occurred thanks to images of DNA by using X-RAY crystalloggraphy by Rosalind Franklin, which then allowed Watson and Crick to create their two strand/double helix model for the first time in history. The discovery established a milestone and a large forthcoming of future understanding. It gave rise to the study of modern molecular biology which goes about understanding how genes in our bodies undergo and control all of the chemical processes which occurs within cells. The discovery came with ground breaking discoveries into the genetic code and how protein synthesis works. Years after discovered in the 1970s/80s it helped to produce powerful techniques like; genetic engineering , gene sequencing and recombinant DNA research, which all played a part in how/why todays multi-billion biotechnology industry was founded.
