The League of Nations came into place on the 10th of January 1920. It was organised in hopes for international cooperation by the Allied Powers at the end of WW1 at the Paris Peace Conference.
The League of Nations did have quite a few positive impacts during its running time from 1920 - 1946. It enforced clear procedures for dealing with aggressive nations, settling disputes between countries through negotiation and diplomacy, and generally improving global welfare. The League also promoted international cooperation in areas such as health, drug trafficking, and freedom of communications. It had an initial membership of 42 nations, which meant that the League could provide an opportunity for both large and small nations to discuss international issues together.
The League of Nations was disbanded on April 19th 1946 as the occurrence of the Second World War meant that it had failed its purpose to prevent any further world wars, and was replaced in 1946 by the United Nations.
