The Nazi Party was steadily growing in approval ratings and this gave Hitler some confidence. Adolf Hitler then attempted to become president however he came second in the Presidential Election in 1932 when he ran against Hindenburg. This loss did not deter Hitler and he continued to try to gain power behind the scenes with various intrigues and deals. He was invited to be Chancellor of Germany in 1933 by Paul von Hindenburg. When Hindenburg died on August 2nd, 1934, Hitler merged the titles of Chancellor and President to become Fuhrer or the absolute leader of Germany.
