Benito Mussolini amassed a following of supporters while working as an editor for his socialist magazine, 'Avanti!'. He advocated for an Italian dictatorship and formed a political group in 1919, which began the rise of fascism.
He instigated 'The March on Rome' to force the King to yield the government to him, which the King did, and he was proclaimed Prime Minister of Italy. Mussolini brought in a law to proclaim the Fascist Party the major party of Italy. He became known as 'Il Duce' which means 'The Leader'. He restored order and calm to the country and became popular with his social reforming and his improvements to public works.
