jun 12, 1683 - The First Practical Microscope

Description:

The discovery of the microscope is yet to be decided by historians as there are variations of the microscope throughout history. Since the concept of focusing light to magnify has been around for thousands of years, the original inventor of the microscope is not labeled. However, the Father of Microbiology, Antonie van Leewenhoek, designed his own microscope by grinding lenses and mounting them into a brass plate. He then used a sharp point to keep the specimen in place and a screw was used to move the specimen around alongside another screw to focus. This microscope required sharp eyesight and good lighting, with these microscopes he made, he was able to achieve above 200x magnification.
