jan 1, 1906 - The British Dreadnought is launched
Description:
(a) Dreadnought, British battleship launched in 1906 that established the pattern of the turbine-powered.
(b) Dreadnought is the replacement programme for the Royal Navy’s Trident missile Vanguard Class submarines which form the UK’s nuclear deterrent. Dreadnoughts were soon eclipsed by the Orion-class battleships, which were armed with 13.5 inch guns and entered service in 1912. Because of their greater firepower, the new ships are called "super dreadnoughts." With the outbreak of World War I in 1914, the Intrepid served as the flagship of the 4th Battle Squadron based in Scapa Bay. In this capacity, it saw the only action of the conflict when it rammed and sank U-29 on 18 March 1915.
