jan 1, 2000 - Nisga’a Treaty receives Royal Assent [2000]
Description:
After 111 years after first asking the government, as part of an agreement with the Nisga’a, the BC and federal government officially recognized the land around the Nass River as Nisga’a. The agreement was signed by Nisga’a representatives and BC Premier Geln Glark on May 27, 1998. The Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development then signed it on May 4, 1999 on behalf of the federal government. The Treaty received Royal Assent on April 13, 2000
