This is credited as the first modern police force. It is also known as the London Metropolitan Police Service, and its members were dubbed "bobbies." They were organized around two principles: the belief that it was possible to discourage crime and the practice of preventative control. They were not well received at first, but now a lot of the modern police system is modeled after them.
