jan 3, 1925 - Matteoti Crisis resolved
Description:
on May 30th 1924 Giacomo Matteoti, a socialist parliament member and outspoken critic of Musso is killed by Balckshirts,
Musso's role is unclear
=>
outrage w/ Musso,
mass protests in cities,
opposition members go on the Aventine Secession (they set up a rival parliament),
there exists the threat of Musso being dismissed by the king,
Musso initially reacts by trying to legally appease the opposition:
he fires the chief of police,
this isn't enought
but nothing happens:
opposition is too divided to decide on anything,
the elite and the king support Musso
the Ras, demanding to begin the Fascist revolution, pressure Musso into action
on January 3rd 1925 Musso admits responsibility for Fascist violence and announces that a dictatorship will quickly be set up,
immediately following this is a wave of arrests of opposition members
over the next two years a series of decrees will be passed that consolidated Musso's power
