jan 1, 1977 - Berger Commission [1977]
Description:
The Berger Commission was introduced by the government to help with the First Nations' concerns about a pipeline going through their land. They were fearful of the disastrous consequences it could have on the environment and their way of life. The Berger Commission called for the building of the pipeline to be put on hold for 10 years so a thorough study about the effects of the pipeline could be conducted and negotiations with the First Nations could start.
