jan 1, 1919 - Delegates from 32 countries met, but the Paris Peace Conference was dominated by the Big Three.
Description:
Negotiations were difficult as each 'Big Three' member had different opinions on how to treat Germany.
Wilson's aims: Create the League of Nations, ensure Germany was not destroyed, and not blame Germany for the war - hated the guilt clause.
Clemenceau's aims: To punish Germany and ensure it was too weak to attack France again, to return the Alsace-Lorraine to France, an independent Rhineland, plus huge reparations for Germany to pay and to disband the German army.
Lloyd George's aims: To please electors that wanted to make "Germany pay", leave Germany strong enough to trade with, and safeguard Britain's naval supremacy.
It is important to note that Lloyd George had recently won a general election. Much of Britain's population wanted revenge on Germany, however, Lloyd George wanted peace.
