Description:

K, so the military was split into two factions, the Kodo-ha and the Tosei-ha,
they both were militaristic, authoritarian and wanted to expand into China,

except the Kodo-ha were complete nutcases:
they wanted a war w/ the USSR,
for the army to be trained "spiritually",
they also wanted to take power by force and violence,

Tosei-ha were realists,
they didn't want war w/ the USSR,
they wanted to modernize the army,
they wanted to take control via peaceful, legal methods

In this incident the Kodo-ha tried to coup the government,
they failed and were discredited,
the Tosei-ha win,
the military finalizes its totalitarian control over Japan (in May a law was passed that only officers could become ministers)
