apr 30, 1947 - Mendez V.S Westminster
Description:
Sylvia Mendez was 9 when her father became a plaintiff in a lawsuit that forced the Westminster school district, in Orange County, Calif., to allow children of Mexican descent to attend schools with white students. The 1947 case also led to the desegregation of public schools across California, where state law had required separate schooling for Asian and Native American children.
