jan 1, 1953 - James Watson and Francis Crick's discovery of the double-helix structure of DNA

Description:

James Watson and Francis Crick, American and British molecular biologists, using results from past experiments to discover the structure of DNA, did so and were able to explain the double-helix structure of DNA to the world, taking most of the credit for the work. Watson, using Rosalind Franklin's photo 'image 51,' instantaneously saw that it had a helical, two-stranded structure, which helped him produce the model of DNA. In 1962, James Watson, Francis Crick, and Maurice Wilkins were awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for their breakthrough in science.
