On February 6, 1778, the Franco-American Treaty was signed, creating a military alliance between the French and the Americans against Great Britain. France and America both agreed to never separately agree to peace with Great Britain. France and America also agreed to give each other support and fight with each other if needed. France recognized America as an independent nation later on in March 17, 1778. The French also supplied the Continental Army with supplies and weapons to help fight against the British.
