- Battle to retake Burma Road
- Songshan: major gateway to Burma Road
- 200,000 Chinese troops marched into Songshan mountainous area
- Bloody 3-month battle
- By 1944 Chinese army desperate - forced conscription, low supplies food and weapons, but still managed to win battles
- Due to Japanese fortifications - had to dig tunnel through mountain 150 meters long. Packed with explosives and blew up the fort
- Chinese military strategy defeated Japanese morale
- Songshan finally captured 7th Sept. 1944
- Result = allies recaptured Burma road
