18 h, jan 10, 2023 y - Nieuwrossese Borderlands Attack

Description:

At the very edge of the province, in the remote mountains, forests, and near the edge of the Empire’s resonantial boundary was an area that many locals referred to as “the borderlands.” It was here, where a usual day’s effort was taking place, where the topic of finding the Entrity, if it was not already monumental enough, boomed.

The routine exercise turned into a precarious situation as several Winter Corps units in the most remote parts of the borderlands started to frantically report that they were under a hail of artillery fire. It appeared as if a nation, until this point relatively unknown, had resonantially intersected with the Empire and had forced a sort of opening into its territory. A quick deduction of what was going on revealed that the resonance pattern of the attacker had in fact been logged in IOSA records but it had been so faint on previous occasions of detection that it was deemed impossible to ever create an intersection. Meanwhile in Haloshassar’s borderlands, the Winter Corps was under bombardment due to that very same intersection that IOSA said would never come. The nation was called Nieuwross, a semi-authoritarian state that seemed to have been working itself up for an attack on another country for a while now, just like the Empire. But this was the Winter Corps that they had picked a fight with. It did not matter who they were fighting, for General Lewis and Commander Brown, this was an armed confrontation nonetheless, and they would treat it as such.

Commander Brown was quickly dispatched to the scene of the newfound battle, not far from where her and General Lewis were stationed in the borderlands. A quick drive brought her to a chaotic scene that, somehow, was still being kept under control, but still, she had only arrived in the rear. The real fight, according to the artillery units that she had stumbled upon, was going on up ahead at the actual border, where rumors of intense shootouts between Imperial and Niewrossese troops were underway. It was suspected that the latter had crossed into the borderlands just a bit to secure some sort of ground to counter the Winter Corps. For her own safety, General Lewis forbade Brown from venturing any closer to the developing front line, but gave clearance to start giving ground orders. She immediately had more infantry, already having stopped their exercises due to the attack, moved up to the rear in preparation to be sent as reinforcements. Many who had joined the Winter Corps from other branches of the military, enthusiastic to become better soldiers, had been aching to see some action for months. This was finally their chance, and after training endlessly since November, they had become extremely confident in their abilities. Upon their eventual arrival at the clashes, they joined those who were already there and proceeded to annihilate their Niewrossese challengers.

The borderlands quickly became an impossible obstacle for the Nieuwrossese troops as the Winter Corps closed in on the small bit of terrain they had captured. Eventually, after a while, they had been fully pushed back to their own territory, but that alone was inadequate to Commander Brown. She wanted to make sure that no further attacks could be launched from Nieuwross into the borderlands. As such, she ordered the infantry at the border to, just like the Nieuwrossese did to them, cross into foreign territory. But this move, while somewhat controversial, would only be very brief. Their task was to destroy artillery pieces that had been used to bombard Winter Corps positions in the borderlands during the attack. They subsequently accomplished this objective without fail, and after their success, withdrew back into Haloshassar immediately. A synthesis by General Lewis that followed the conclusion of the skirmish determined that the Nieuwrossese ground forces that had fought the Winter Corps had lost a significant percentage of their capabilities and that, if attacked by the rest of the military at a full scale, could most definitely be defeated, and therefore, have Nieuwross claim the title of being the Entrity.
