Monkey Jack will
be held in quarantine
for 30 days in Australia
Description:
On Monday it was revealed Johnny Depp has arrived in Australia to begin filming Pirates Of The Caribbean 5.
But one of the actor's co-stars is still a long way from arriving on the Queensland set - Jack the Monkey.
The Capuchin monkey is classified as a pest by Australia's Department Of Agriculture, and so must spend 30 days in quarantine after arriving Down Under, news.com.au reported.
The primate is expected to arrive on March 9, joined by another monkey that serves as his understudy, and the two will serve out their quarantine time at a specially constructed facility on the Gold Coast set.
A spokesperson said that because both animals are sterile, there is no risk of the species breeding in Australia.
The acting animal plays the pet of Captain Hector Barbossa, played by Australian star Geoffrey Rush in the Disney film saga.
In December the Department Of Agriculture confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that the particular species is 'subject to a 30-day quarantine period.'
However, the Jerry Buckheimer Film spokesperson said this was taken into account and 'it’s really not a problem at all.'
Filming is scheduled to begin this month, with pre-production for the film, tentatively titled Dead Men Tell No Tales, having already begun in October.
