dec 27, 1969 - Green vs Connally 1970 [SOCIAL]
Description:
The supreme court made it clear that federal funds would be withheld from higher educational institutions that continued to have a policy of segregation.
As a result, the desegregation of schools, particularly in the South, continued.
At the beginning of Nixon's presidency in 1969, 68% of AA children were attending segregated schools in the south. When he left office in 1974, the figure was 8%. Bussing had been a major factor in achieving this breakthrough.
evidence of SC helping AA rights. Could also be used as evidence for continuing resistance to integration: twenty years after the Brown ruling, bussing was having to be used to achieve integration.
