is completed
Description:
Many Jews had sought refuge in Spain after being expelled from France and England. A resentment of Jewish influence and wealth grew in Spain. The Black Death sparked a new wave of anti-Semitism and around 40% of the Jewish population were killed or forced to convert.
Ferdinand and Isabella were able to establish their own Inquisition to seek out and punish any conversos/New Christians (Jews who had converted) who were suspected of holding ties to Judaism. In 1492, Ferdinand and Isabella issued an edict expelling all Jews from Spain.
