jan 1, 1895 - The First Sino-Japanese War
Description:
The First Sino-Japanese War between China and Japan was sparked by a dispute over control of Korea, which both countries claimed as theirs. Japan was determined to establish a Colonial Empire for itself, as it lacked the natural resources on which it depended. Japan emerged victorious from the war, and gained control of Taiwan, much of Korea, and the Liaodong Peninsula in China.
