Description:
MLK's tactic of provoking a violent response did not work here. Police chief Laurie Pritchett prevented violence from breaking out, and promising [but never delivering] to make concessions at a later date. MLK realised from this that he needed to provoke a violent response in order to get federal government to act.Evidence that MLK was important but that eh reaction of the white authorities was pivotal to improve economic conditions though short-lived.
