[ECONOMIC]
Description:
MLK's tactic of provoking a violent response did not work here. Police chief Laurie Pritchett prevented violence from breaking out, and promising [but never delivering] to make concessions at a later date. MLK realised from this that he needed to provoke a violent response in order to get federal government to act.
Evidence that MLK was important but that eh reaction of the white authorities was pivotal to improve economic conditions though short-lived.
