jul 6, 1892 - Homestead lockout

Description:

Carnegie+Frick decided it was too expenseive to bargain with their organized workers when there was new machinery to replace them. Members of the Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel workers were locked out of the homestead mill and Frick wanted to hire new workers. Carnegie+Frick hired private armed guards to defend the plant. Workers opened fire. Seven workers died, 3 guards died. Frick asked the governor to send the milita to arrest the labor leaders. The union died, many lost jobs.
