oct 1, 1641 - 'The Incident'
Description:
while Charles was in Scotland trying to praise the Scottish nobles after signing and helping him out whilst giving him more power over Scotland as a whole with also removing the troops away from England's borders from the outbreak of the bishops' war.
there was a secret royalist plot to kidnap a radical Scottish covenanted Archibald Campbell (the 1st marquess of Argyll)
the royalist group all did this in the name of Charles without his permission or his notice and their aim was to get rid of leading radicals
the incident got its name because the Scottish found out about this unfaithful act and it destroyed Charles's reputation and also damaged his hopes of ever gaining further support from Scotland
( as it shows that Charles's way of showing thanks is by kidnapping the leader and stabbing them in the back. it looks like)
after Scotland found out that it was in Charles's name( which was shock to Charles.) the king got forced to leave scotland by the army and was told not to return.
