jan 1, 1637 - John Willams Case
Description:
puritans opposition
a key example of strict religion was at this time and especially with the new up-and-coming region of puritan John Willam was at the heart of it
John Willam is known for being a loyal member to the royals as he was a Welsh clergyman and political advisor towards James I which might that he would serve to be a lot of things like Bishop of Lincoln 1621–1641 Lord Keeper of the Great Seal 1621–1625
however, in the year 1637 he was imprisoned within the tower of London as he published a book that year called 'the holy table, name and thing' it was criticised and looked upon as shameful because of a source out of the book which mentioned the word 'altar' (which is the table in a Christian church at which the bread and wine are consecrated in communion services.)
because of this one word within the book it was seen to be to catholic and within an Protestant nation that was becoming Puritan they saw this as threat almost as s impsioned John Willam
