Black Panthers founded 1966 led by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale.Rejected integration; called for black separatism. For three years, the Panthers received national attention through their armed parades of ‘self-defence’ in uniform that included berets and dark glasses. Crushed by the FBI in the early 1970s.
20-30% of Panthers were arrested. 27 Panthers were killed in shootouts with the police
