jan 5, 1955 - Murder of Emmet Till [SOCIAL]
Description:
Murder of Emmet Till, 1955 excited great publicity and protest and was met with outrage in the north.
This showed that these events were becoming rarer and peoples’ attitudes were changing – at least in the north.
However, the case also showed the continuing lack of justice in the south as the two murderers were acquitted by an all-white jury.
Evidence of continuing violence but diminishing and a change of attitude in the north.
