Sit-in protests against segregation were organised – largely in the north [i.e. de facto segregation]. Main aim was to protest against segregation frequently occurring in the north. There was some success: de facto segregation was reduced as a result of these actions. Evidence of own actions and link to the later sit in protests of the 1960s – i.e. not a new idea.Added to timeline:
