In 1590 two Dutch spectacle makers, Zacharias Jansen and his father Hans started experimenting with lenses. They put lenses in a tube and made the discovery that the object at the end of the tube was greatly enlarged. The lenses made the objects appear much larger than any simple magnifying glass could achieve by itself at the time. It magnified about x9 however the object appeared a bit fuzzy.Added to timeline:
