Description:

The Louisiana Purchase was purchased from France for $15 million. It was 828,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi River. This purchase doubled the size of the United States. It also gave a powerful start to westward expansion. Even though the constitution didn’t give the president power to purchase land, Jefferson made the purchase. He wanted to give future generations the opportunity to own land.
