In the 1870s, the 1st railway line was constructed from Madras to Bombay via Hyderabad and Wadi, Gulbarga. An agreement was reached between Salar Jung and the British government
As part of this, in 1874, the first railway line between Secunderabad and Wadi was built in the Hyderabad presidency.
At the same time, coal deposits were found in Singareni and Chanda (now Chandapur in Maharashtra).
If a railway line is constructed over these two areas, the coal deposits can be easily moved to other areas. He made some changes to the 1st Salarjung Chanda Railway Scheme (to be extended up to Maharashtra).
