jun 9, 1772 - Gaspee Affair

Description:

A predatory British customs ship, HMS Gaspée, ran aground near Providence while trying to arrest sailors of peaceful ships. That night, the Sons of Liberty burned the Gaspée and wounded the captain. Britain tried to find them and send them to trial in England, but they could not. In response, twelve of the colonies established committees of correspondence to defend against threats to their liberties. With this new escalation coming from both sides, the threat of independence looms closer. Furthermore, the committees of correspondence will exaggerate the smallest of events, and may even prosecute me for importing British goods. As a result, the Gaspee Affair is detrimental to my business.
