Description:

Nomarchs / Nomes - the nomes were feudal states underneath the pharaoh, ruled by local hereditary nomarchs. At the end of the New Kingdom, the nomes broke off from the pharaoh and became independent. Eventually unified into two states at Memphis and Thebes.
