The Constitution was ratified to replace the Articles of Confederation. The goal of the Constitutional Convention was to write a framework for the federal government. The Constitution created the three branches of government. It also protects the citizens of the United States and guarantees basic rights. James Madison is often called the father of the constitution since so many of his ideas were used in the final document.
