Rio+20 is the short name for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June 2012.
Rio+20 mobilized more than $513 billion in commitments for sustainable development, including energy, transport, green economy, disaster reduction, desertification, water, forests and agriculture. Governments also decided to establish an intergovernmental process under the General Assembly to prepare options on a strategy for sustainable development financing. Rio+20 was a success. ' The UN has publicised the various achievements, key amongst them the fact that more than US$ 500 billion was pledged towards sustainable development by governments, multilateral development banks and the private sector at the conference.
