nov 8, 1864 - Election of 1864

Description:

The Election of 1864 was important because of the turnout. The Electoral Votes result was that of someone who wasn't even on the Ballot. Then it became that Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. With this turnout, Southerners were furious, as the President elected, was on the side of the Republican Party, which went against everything that the Southern States stood for. The North was happy with the turnout of the Election because Lincoln was a Republican, but the South's reaction turned out in seceding from the Union. This was a step backward in Reconstruction, because the election turnout, made the South scared of losing their political power, then they seceded.
