sep 17, 1787 - United States of Americas Constitution was signed

Description:

The constitution of the United States of America was put in place to establish a democracy. The main aim of the constitution was to invent a government that held enough power to act on a national level, but without so much power that fundamental rights would be at risk. The way the government and country is run in regards to representation has drastically changed since 1787, however it cannot be ignored the fact that more than half of American citizens were not allowed to vote. All the different policies put in place that leave the government officials with so much power and the general people with so little say and power. The constitution gave more people a say in governmental decisions which was progress from the Articles of Confederation. The Constitution however ended up establishing a Federal democratic republic rather than a democracy. There were still countless barriers and restrictions on participation and representation especially around the government which is why it wasn’t a democracy, and instead a Federal democratic republic.
