jan 1, 1543 - Andreas Vesalius: Human Anatomy

Description:

Medical professor Andreas Vesalius emphasised the importance of understanding the human body, believing that successful surgery would only be possible if doctors had a proper understanding of anatomy. He dissected cadavers in order to understand and observe the human body much more closely - in 1543, he published the Fabric of the Human Body, an atlas containing detailed illustrations and diagrams of human anatomy widely read due to the printing press. Vesalius' findings showed the flaws in the teachings of Galen, encouraging doctors to question Galen and realise there was more to discover about the body.
