apr 3, 1948 - Implementation of the Marshall Plan

Description:

The Marshall Plan was created to prevent an economic collapse of Western Europe, and most believed that it would provide both political and economic benefits in the long run. The U.S. gave $12 billion in efforts to aid the reconstruction of Europe. Under the Marshall Plan, Seventeen Western European nations received aid, and several of them would become valuable trading partners with the U.S. The Soviet Union was invited to apply for aid, but Stalin refused and ordered his satellites to do the same. The Marshall Plan produced an economic revival and prevented the growth of Communism.
