jul 11, 1433 - Linaiuoli Altarpiece

Description:

The Altarpiece painted for the linen merchants’ guild is one of the earliest works created by Fra Angelico that can be dated with certainty. This particular triptych is important to include because it is located in a marble shrine designed by the sculptor Lorenzo Ghiberti because of Fra Angelico's inspiration for "The Crucifixion", which was created in 1420. That influence was from Ghiberti himself. The images depicted in this altapiece represent the motif of the "Madonna and Star."
