This battle occurred on the Japan island of Iwo Jima. The US originally thought the island could be captured in four days, but the Japanese had tunnels and stronghold. This made it harder for the US to capture the island, but the US was able to capture the island. This was a turning point of the war because despite the challenge America had they still were able to defeat the Japanese and it proved their strengh.
