mar 6, 1857 - Scott v. Sanford

Description:

Dred Scott was a Missouri slave to a white doctor. He was brought to Illinois, a free state where they declared residency. After his master died, he didn't want to be sold so he attempted to sue for his freedom, citing the Equal Protection Clause. However the court ruled against Scott, claiming slaves were not citizens, therefore they cannot sue and had no rights to appeal to the Supreme Court
