dec 1, 1849 - Compromise of 1850 This compromise was over the conflict on if California was going to become a free or slave state because the whole state crossed over the 36-30 line. The compromise allowed California to become a free state. However, a new, more strict fugitive slave law was put in place. The new slave law stated every slave who escaped to the North now had to go back to the place they escaped from.
