From as early as the 12th century, there was some evidence of the existence of the parachute being used to entertain people in China.
In 1514, Leonardo Di Vinci's sketches including a sketch of a pyramid-shaped structure used to escape a building, it isn't clear whether he actually tested this idea.
During the late 18th century, Frenchman Joseph Montgolfier began to experiment alongside with hot air balloons, Sebastian Lenormand tested the parachute by jumping off the top of the Montpelier Observatory in Paris.
